Convex mirror surrounded by a sober wood antique black frame.
Convex mirror surrounded by a sober frame.
Convex mirrors have been considered “magic mirrors” since their first appearance in the Renaissance, due to their “supernatural” ability to reflect a complete image of the room they are placed in. Also known as “witch’s eyes” (from the French Oeil de sorcière) and “bankers’ mirrors”, they had great fortune in the history of art: from the famous “Portrait of the Arnolfini spouses” by Jan Van Eyck, passing through Parmigianino and Caravaggio, up to Man Ray.
